Anandiben Patel asks girls to visit police stations on Rakshabandhan, tie ‘rakhis’ on the hands of policemen, overcome phobia about police

Gujarat Chief Minister Anandiben Patel today exhorted girl students of schools to visit police stations on Rakshabandhan Day, talk to police officers and tie ‘rakhis’ on the policemen. Thus, she said, they will overcome their irrational fear about policemen as well as establish a link between the civilians and men in uniform.

Speaking at the State-level ‘Women’s Empowerment Parade’ while launching the state-wide ‘Women’s Empowerment Fortnight’ here, she said a large number of women are nowadays joining different fields and have to learn the art of self-defence for their own protection. The government is imparting such training to women.

She said that while telephone number 1091 has been earmarked for women to call police, another number 181 has also been provided. All schools should prominently display the numbers.

Smt. Patel added that the women’s commission helps bring solutions to wide range of grievances including social issues. In a bid to strengthen women’s security and empower them economically, the state government has implemented various schemes. And all the information regarding such welfare schemes should be provided to the women. Even the members of Sakhi Mandals should equip themselves with the general financial transactions, she added.
