State Government has created Narmada division under Narmada‚ Water Resources‚ Water Supply and Kalpsar Department in view to support the Sardar Sarovar Project (SSP). It aims to harness the untapped waters of the Narmada for survival of millions of people and environmentally sound sustainable development of western India by providing the essence of life-Water and Energy. This is a multipurpose joint venture of four states – Gujarat, Madhya Pradesh‚ Maharashtra and Rajasthan in India with a terminal major dam on river Narmada in Gujarat. Kalpasar is tidal power cum fresh water supply project providing large multipurpose benefits. It is in fact a project envisaging total multipurpose development of the Gulf of Khambhat. For Water Resources, the Department constitutes a Board involved in works of commissioning the projects of drinking water, sewerage projects with local organization and other work for water supply and sanitation program. The “Drinking water Operation – projects” like Sujalam Sufalam, Irrigation projects, Interlinking rivers etc are managed by the department.
